As part of Science Week, Junior Infants pretended to be scientists today and conducted an experiment called ‘Polishing coins’. Each child was given either a 1 cent, 2 cent or 5 cent coin. Each group had a bowl with lemon juice. The coins were placed in the bowl and left there for five minutes. Coins were then removed from the bowl and dried. Each coin was bright and shiny. We concluded that the acid in the vinegar restored the coins.
