Science Week – Senior Infants

In Senior Infants, we investigated how water travels through plants using the process of osmosis.

We worked scientifically by making predictions as our starting point. Then each pod was given a glass of water and a piece of celery. Drops of food colouring were added to the water to change the colour. We added the food colouring to make it easier to see the water moving through the celery. We kept a plain piece of celery to one side to act as our control. We set our celery aside over the weekend and were amazed by our results this morning.

All our celery pieces were coloured through, thus showing that the water travelled upwards using osmosis. We recorded our results and were very proud of our work!
